While watching an episode of the Encounter, I heard this statement “our children at times draw us closer to God”. That was a slap on the forehead. Who has the power to hurt you as bad as your children? We pour our all into them, we support their dreams while giving up ours. We transport them to every game and practice and party and school function while neglecting our own social needs. We pray for their choice of friends and where they go when they start driving. They may get involved in drugs, mischief or sex. We do our best to guide to do the right things to make their life easier.
Have you ever considered that God looks at us the same way? Well, in my experience over the last 34 yrs as a parent of 3, I have experienced joy, heartache, sorrow, pride, anger and all the emotions that children bring. It reminded me that God has experienced all of that with us. He has to look down and shake His head at our disobedience and shenanigans.
What does it feel like when your children walk away from you? Well, I have recently discovered the answer to that. It is devastating! They look at you as if you should have been perfect. They don’t want to cut you any slack that you are just surviving the best you can, the only way you know how. While we are not the same parent that God is, we can gather how He feels when we hurt him.
What is keeping you from God? A job, an affair, a sport, TV or Facebook? We can spend hours in front of a TV watching things that corrupt our minds but cannot give God 5 mins a day to change our hearts.
Whatever your situation with God or your children, how about giving God the FIRST 5 mins of everyday just to say thank you for His blessings in your life? Try listening to Christian praise music every morning and see how different your day goes when you do that. God wants your undivided devotion. When you start your day with Him, life will flow so much better. Align the vertical relationship and the horizontal will work out.
Continue praying for your children and their wisdom and discernment. And allow God to work on you too.
May God bless you today. Father, I ask your blessings on those who read this message and may they be awakened to You!
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it."
