One of my favorite movies is Titanic. Several lessons can be pulled from this movie but this particular one is to sink or swim.
When the shop starts to sink and it is apparent to the captain that it will go down certainly, he heads to the bridge and stands at the helm. Is that courage? Fear? Shame? Or pride?
As captain, he has the knowledge of what lies ahead, the experience of being a leader and takes responsibility for the ship itself. He never tries to save himself or anyone else really. He passes that in onto his staff.
The rest of ships’ passengers are so worried about themselves that people are trampled on, knocked over board, shot, and trying to get off the ship. The ones left without life boats have to decide to sink or swim.
Jack and Rose decide to stay on the ship as long as possible and then try to survive the cold water. They literally either sink or swim. They hold on to a piece of the ship to try to survive.
So what do you hold onto? Hold onto Jesus or at least the hem of His garment. Only by holding onto Jesus can you survive the wind, waves, the drowning feeling of life. He is the only life preserver you need. His word should be the preserver you reach for during times of struggle.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says “be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
God always has your best interest at heart so rely on Him to keep you afloat. But you have to be willing to put on the life preserver who is Jesus Christ!
May God bless you today.
