Over recent weeks and months, I have realized we live by our calendar. Being retired, you would not think you are confined by time. But then, I had a revelation. When we live by our calendars, we put the least important things on there not the most important.
We schedule work, doctor appointments, hair, workouts, social meetings, kids events and fun. But when do we schedule time with God? We can show up on time for ball practice or hair appointments but, we can’t show up to church on time or at all.
What does your calendar look like? Packed full of to do’s? How about rest? Have you scheduled that? Rest is not only a gift from God, but a command. “You shall labor for 6 days and rest on the 7th.” The old saying of “if you don’t rest, God will give you a reason to rest” is so true.
Stop letting your calendar control you and start controlling your calendar. Setting time aside for your God is more important than anything else. Everything you have is because He gave you the knowledge, ability, time and desire to achieve.
I want to challenge you to plan to put God first everyday for a week. At the end of the week, check how you feel, how your week was different. Give him the first 15 mins of your day and you will be blessed. He wants our first fruits not our leftovers.
Your most important things should take up more of your time than anything or anyone else. Relationships are most important. Everything else is icing.
